Now that it's inked a pact to provide its Windows Phone 7 software to Nokia , Microsoft said Mon. that it hopes to connect its phone software to its Xbox game machine this year. CEO Steve Ballmer said in a talk that Microsoft is also planning to beef up its software as it tries to catch up with rivals in the smart-phone sector. Sales of Windows-based phones lag far behind those of Apple's iPhone and phones based on Google's Android. Microsoft dipped 2 cents to 27.23.
